Anthropic said on May 13 it launched Claude for Small Business, a package inside Claude Cowork that connects Claude to Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal and other business software used by smaller companies. The company said the product is aimed at tasks that owners often still handle manually, including payroll planning, month-end close, invoice follow-up and basic marketing work. The launch comes as Anthropic pushes beyond enterprise and developer buyers and into smaller firms that already use mainstream finance and productivity tools. Ramp said on May 13 that Anthropic had passed OpenAI in its latest business adoption data, giving Anthropic a fresh data point as it broadens Claude’s commercial reach. Ramp’s May AI Index said 34.4% of businesses in its sample were paying for Anthropic in April, compared with 32.3% for OpenAI. Anthropic did not tie the small-business launch directly to Ramp’s figures, but the two updates landed in the same week. (anthropic.com) ### Which tools does Claude now plug into for small businesses? Anthropic said Claude for Small Business works with Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. The company described it as a “toggle install” inside Claude Cowork rather than a separate standalone product. The May 13 announcement said the product is designed to put Claude “inside the tools small businesses depend on” so users can work from existing records and workflows instead of copying information into a chat window. (ramp.com) Anthropic said small businesses account for 44% of U.S. GDP and nearly half of private-sector employment. ### What can the QuickBooks and PayPal connections actually do? (anthropic.com) Anthropic said one finance workflow lets users settle a QuickBooks cash position against incoming PayPal settlements, build a 30-day forecast, rank overdue items and queue reminders for approval. Another workflow reconciles books against settlements, flags mismatches, writes a plain-English profit-and-loss summary and exports a close packet for an accountant through QuickBooks. (anthropic.com) The company said users still approve actions before anything is sent, posted or paid. Anthropic framed that review step as part of how the product works inside operational systems that handle money, records and customer communications. ### How broad is the product package beyond bookkeeping? Anthropic said the launch includes 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, human resources and customer service. (anthropic.com) It also includes 15 reusable skills built around recurring tasks that business owners told the company were slowing them down. Daniela Amodei, Anthropic’s co-founder and president, said in the launch post that small businesses “make up nearly half the American economy” but have not had the same resources as larger companies. (anthropic.com) She said the product is meant to handle work that “piles up after hours,” including payroll planning, invoicing and marketing setup. ### Why does Ramp’s adoption data matter this week? Ramp’s May 13 AI Index said Anthropic’s paid business adoption rose 3.8% in April to 34.4%, while OpenAI’s fell 2.9% to 32.3%. (anthropic.com) Ara Kharazian, a lead economist at Ramp, wrote that it was the first time Anthropic had passed OpenAI in Ramp’s business adoption measure. Kharazian also cautioned against treating the result as a settled market outcome. (anthropic.com) In the same note, he wrote that the figures should not be read as proof Anthropic is the “definitive leader” in business adoption and pointed to cost, compute and product issues as risks ahead. ### Where does Anthropic place this launch in its broader product push? Anthropic’s newsroom shows the company has released a series of business-focused updates in recent weeks, including agents for financial services on May 5 and a compute deal with SpaceX and higher usage limits on May 6. (ramp.com) On May 14, Anthropic also announced that PwC was deploying Claude across client and internal work. The May 13 small-business post said Claude for Small Business is available through Claude Cowork, where users connect their applications and choose a task for Claude to prepare. (ramp.com) Anthropic said the next step for customers is to install the package inside Cowork and link software such as QuickBooks and PayPal before using the prebuilt workflows.
