Salesforce Acquires Momentum for AI Sales

Salesforce has acquired conversational intelligence company Momentum to bolster its AI-driven SaaS offerings. The technology will be integrated into Salesforce's Agentforce 360 and Slackbot products to expand AI-augmented sales workflows and automation capabilities.

- Momentum's core technology is a "universal ingestion engine" designed to capture and analyze unstructured data from third-party voice and video platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. This addresses a long-standing gap where conversational details from calls often fail to be accurately logged in CRM systems. - The acquisition is part of a broader, deliberate strategy by Salesforce to build out its agentic AI platform, Agentforce, which was launched in September 2024. This is reportedly the tenth acquisition Salesforce has made in the six months leading up to the agreement, with most of the deals aimed at enhancing Agentforce's capabilities. - The technology will directly feed into Agentforce 360, Salesforce's platform for building and managing AI agents, and Data 360, its underlying data engine. The goal is to provide AI agents with deeper context from the "true voice of the customer" to drive more complex, multi-step automated workflows. - For Slack, this integration enhances the recently upgraded Slackbot, which has been repositioned from a simple assistant to a context-aware personal AI agent. Momentum will allow Slackbot to draw insights from actual customer conversations, not just text-based interactions within Slack or connected apps. - Santiago Suarez Ordoñez, CEO and co-founder of Momentum, stated their mission was to "bridge the gap between unstructured conversation and structured action." Steve Fisher, President and Chief Product Officer at Salesforce, noted that the acquisition "accelerates our roadmap by unlocking the long tail of conversational data." - This move intensifies Salesforce's competition with established conversational intelligence vendors like Gong and Chorus.ai by embedding similar data-capture capabilities directly into its core platform. - The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. - This deal follows Salesforce's acquisition of Cimulate, an agentic commerce and product discovery company, just a week prior, further signaling an aggressive M&A strategy focused on AI agents.
