Molt.id Launches AI Agent Domain System on Solana
A new project, Molt.id, has launched what it calls the first AI agent domain system on the Solana blockchain. The system allows users to mint an NFT that represents their domain, which they then own permanently. This provides a decentralized identity layer for autonomous AI agents operating on the network.
- The system bundles a `.molt` domain, which is a Metaplex Core NFT, with a personal AI agent, an immutable wallet, and persistent storage for a one-time minting fee of 0.4 SOL. This model aims to remove technical and cost barriers like server maintenance and DevOps knowledge, which can exceed $600 for a traditional setup. - Molt.id's security model centers on its "immutable domain wallet," which is a Program Derived Address (PDA) derived from the NFT itself. This wallet has no private keys, eliminating the risk of key exposure; every transaction proposed by the AI agent requires the domain owner's co-signature. - The AI agent is a personal instance of OpenClaw, an open-source AI system, and runs on-demand using Cloudflare, which means there are no idle costs. All agent data, including its personality (`soul.md`), skills, and memory, is stored on Cloudflare R2 and is directly tied to the NFT. - Public agent data and identity are anchored on the Solana blockchain using the Metaplex Core NFT standard, making the identity verifiable and composable within the Solana ecosystem. The protocol utilizes the SPL Name Service for domain registration. - The project is part of a broader trend of combining AI with blockchain to enhance trust and automation. Use cases for such on-chain AI agents include DeFi trading, DAO governance, and portfolio management. - Molt.id was launched out of the SolRocketpad Incubator to provide a dedicated identity layer for AI agents, aiming to foster trust and accountability in the ecosystem. - The launch corresponds with the release of the native token, `$MOLTID`, intended to create a token-powered ecosystem for the autonomous agent economy. - The "Molt" branding is also associated with Moltbook, a viral Reddit-like social forum for AI agents launched in January 2026 by Matt Schlicht. The forum's growth was driven by agents running on OpenClaw (formerly Moltbot), the same open-source AI system used by Molt.id.
