Eagles Lock Up Jordan Davis
The Philadelphia Eagles signed DT Jordan Davis to a massive 3-year, $78 million extension with $65 million guaranteed. The Texans also made moves, signing DE Danielle Hunter to a 1-year, $40.1 million deal with a $30.7 million signing bonus and LB E.J. Speed for 2-years, $13 million. The Bills released several players including CB Taron Johnson and WR Curtis Samuel.
Jordan Davis was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, signing a fully guaranteed four-year, $17 million rookie contract. After serving as a rotational player in his first year, he has started every game for the past three seasons for the Eagles. The new extension places Davis among the highest-paid defensive tackles in the league, with an average annual salary of $26 million. This deal is structured on top of his existing fifth-year option for 2026, keeping the former Georgia Bulldog under contract in Philadelphia through the 2029 season. Danielle Hunter, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, joins the Texans after a long tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the third round in 2015. In 2018, he signed a five-year, $72 million extension with the Vikings, a sharp contrast to his new, fully guaranteed one-year deal in Houston. Linebacker E.J. Speed comes to Houston after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Before a season with a more limited role, he had recorded back-to-back seasons with over 100 tackles for the Colts in 2023 and 2024. The release of Taron Johnson is a surprising move by the Bills, as the former fourth-round pick was named a second-team All-Pro in 2023. Johnson had previously signed a three-year contract extension with Buffalo in March 2024. For Curtis Samuel, his release comes after he signed a three-year contract with the Bills in 2024. The move will reportedly free up $6.05 million in cap space for Buffalo. Samuel was originally a second-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2017 and also played for the Washington Commanders.
