GoodRx expands semaglutide pill access
GoodRx is expanding access to oral semaglutide by offering cash pricing and tools to help patients find the pill more affordably through its platform. (pharmacytimes.com) That rollout is part of a broader shift toward retail and cash pathways for GLP‑1 therapies outside traditional insured channels. (pharmacytimes.com)
GoodRx is adding cash-price access for oral semaglutide, letting eligible self-pay patients get Wegovy tablets through its pharmacy network for as little as $149 a month on some starter fills. (goodrx.com) The offer covers Wegovy tablets at more than 70,000 retail pharmacies nationwide through GoodRx’s collaboration with Novo Nordisk, according to GoodRx’s pricing page. GoodRx says the pill is available at $149 a month for certain new-patient fills, with later fills and other doses generally priced at $299. (goodrx.com) The Food and Drug Administration approved Wegovy tablets in 2025 for chronic weight management with diet and physical activity. The label now lists both injectable and oral Wegovy, and carries the same boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors. (fda.gov; fda.gov) Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Wegovy and Rybelsus, but the products are approved for different uses. Rybelsus tablets are approved for adults with type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy tablets are approved for weight management. (novo-pi.com; fda.gov) Cash pricing has become a bigger part of the semaglutide market since the Food and Drug Administration said on February 21, 2025, that the shortage of semaglutide injection products was resolved. Novo Nordisk had already moved into lower-price direct and retail cash channels for Wegovy injections, including a $499-a-month cash program reported in 2025. (fda.gov; pharmacytimes.com) GoodRx’s own pricing pages show why the cash offer is a selling point. Its Wegovy cost guide says the drug’s list price is about $1,350 for a 28-day supply, while NovoCare lists Rybelsus at $997.58 per package for the 3 mg, 7 mg, and 14 mg tablet strengths. (goodrx.com; novocare.com) The pill also changes how patients take semaglutide. Rybelsus labeling says oral semaglutide must be taken once daily on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of water, and the tablets cannot be split, crushed, or chewed. (novo-pi.com) GoodRx has been building a broader weight-loss business around those cash-pay pathways. In November 2025, the company said new GoodRx users could get Ozempic or Wegovy injections for $199 a month through a separate telemedicine-linked program. (goodrx.com; investors.goodrx.com) For patients who want semaglutide without weekly injections or insurance approval fights, GoodRx is now positioning the pill as a retail purchase with a posted monthly price.
