New Asian Supermarket for Fremont

A major Asian supermarket chain is preparing to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont. While an opening date hasn't been set, the store is expected to be a significant addition to the local retail scene, catering to the area's diverse population.

The new supermarket will be an H Mart, a popular Korean-American grocery store chain. The Fremont location is set to be a massive two-story, 100,000-square-foot establishment, making it the largest in California. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2026. The store will be located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, taking over a building previously occupied by Kohl's. This new H Mart is designed as a flagship prototype for the company, featuring not just a grocery store but also a food hall, dine-in restaurants, and a bar. Fremont's demographic landscape makes it a prime location for such a supermarket. The city's population is nearly 64% Asian, with significant Chinese and Indian communities. This diverse population creates a strong existing customer base for Asian food and products. This will be H Mart's latest addition to the Bay Area, with other stores already in San Jose, Cupertino, and San Francisco. The new store will join a competitive local market that includes at least two other 99 Ranch Market locations in Fremont and a Korean Mega Mart that opened in 2022.
