Milan's Carlton Hotel Redefines Fashion District Luxury

The Carlton's return to Milan's hotel scene is the result of a five-year renovation after being taken over by the Rocco Forte Hotels group in 2020. Originally opened in 1963 during Italy's post-war economic boom, the hotel is now poised to reclaim its status as a prestigious address in the city. The hotel's design, a collaboration between Olga Polizzi, Paolo Moschino, and Philip Vergeylen, aims for a blend of Milanese elegance and the feel of a private residence. This design ethos is applied across its 71 rooms and suites, each intended to feel like a private apartment rather than a standard hotel room. With 71 rooms and suites, The Carlton positions itself as a boutique alternative to the city's larger luxury hotels, emphasizing a more personalized experience. Its amenities include the 280-square-metre Irene Forte Spa, which features a sauna, steam room, and sensory showers. The property is situated on Via Senato, with a secondary entrance on the pedestrianized Via della Spiga, home to flagship stores like Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren. A dedicated Carlton garden is also planned to open in spring 2026, offering a rare green space in the bustling fashion district. The Carlton is part of a new wave of high-profile hotel openings in Milan, joining competitors like Casa Brera and anticipating the arrival of Six Senses, Rosewood, and Soho House. This revitalization of the city's luxury hotel market comes as Milan prepares to co-host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
