Sunricher Showcases DALI-2 Lineup

Ahead of Light+Building 2026, Sunricher showcased its full lineup of DALI-2 certified solutions. The portfolio includes masters, DT6/DT8 tunable controls, sensors, and gateways, highlighting the industry's continued push towards standardized, interoperable smart controls for building automation ecosystems.

The DALI-2 certification, an evolution of the original DALI protocol, brings a critical assurance of interoperability to the lighting industry. Unlike its predecessor, DALI-2 requires mandatory, independent verification of test results for all devices, including sensors and controllers, before they can carry the DALI-2 logo. This rigorous process, managed by the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA), ensures that products from different manufacturers will work together seamlessly, a significant step up from the self-declaration of DALI version-1. This push for standardization directly supports the specification of advanced, human-centric lighting systems. DALI-2's architecture enables precise control over individual luminaires, which is fundamental for creating dynamic lighting environments that support circadian rhythms. Such systems can adjust color temperature and intensity throughout the day to align with our natural sleep-wake cycles, a key consideration in standards like the WELL Building Standard. The WELL Building Standard specifically uses Equivalent Melanopic Lux (EML) as a metric to quantify light's impact on our internal body clock. It sets requirements for achieving certain EML levels at specific times to support occupant health and well-being. This is based on the discovery of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) in the eye, which are crucial for regulating our circadian rhythms and are particularly sensitive to blue-rich light. Tunable white technology is the engine behind these human-centric applications, allowing for real-time adjustment of a light source's correlated color temperature (CCT). Enabled by DALI-2's expanded feature set, designers can specify a range from warm (around 2700K) to cool (6500K or more) light to mimic the natural progression of daylight, enhancing everything from alertness and productivity to relaxation and sleep quality. Beyond health and well-being, the integration of DALI-2 with broader building automation systems via IoT is driving the creation of truly smart buildings. Data on energy consumption, fixture run-time, and occupancy can be collected and analyzed, leading to predictive maintenance and optimized energy efficiency. AI and machine learning algorithms can then leverage this data to create lighting systems that autonomously adapt to occupant behavior and environmental changes. This drive for technological advancement is increasingly paired with a focus on sustainability and the circular economy. Luminaire design is shifting towards modularity, allowing for the easy replacement and upgrading of components like LED modules and drivers. This "design for disassembly" approach, along with the use of recycled and recyclable materials, aims to keep products and materials in use for as long as possible, minimizing waste and environmental impact. For design leaders, navigating these technological and sustainable shifts is key to influencing product roadmaps. A deep understanding of how architects and specifiers evaluate lighting for projects—from aesthetic flexibility to seamless integration with systems like KNX—is crucial. Publications like *Dezeen*, *ArchDaily*, and *arc magazine* provide critical insight into the projects and trends that are shaping the discourse within the architectural and lighting design communities. Ultimately, leadership in lighting design requires a holistic approach that balances the art and science of illumination. It involves not just mastering the technical specifications of protocols like DALI-2 but also understanding the profound impact of light on human experience and the imperative to create sustainable, intelligent, and human-centric built environments.
