Guided By Voices Announces New Album
Indie legends Guided By Voices announced a new album "Crawlspace Of The Pantheon" and shared the lead track "We Outlast Them All." The full release promises more of their prolific, lo-fi sound that's defined their decades-long career. This continues their remarkably consistent output of new material.
*Crawlspace Of The Pantheon* will be the 44th studio album from Guided By Voices, scheduled for release on May 29, 2026. The album follows *Thick, Rich & Delicious*, which was released in October 2025. Frontman Robert Pollard has stated that he worked more diligently on the lyrics for this album, aiming for an "emotionally conceptual feel" that is at times autobiographical. The band's current lineup, stable since 2016, is considered a "new Golden Age" of GBV and includes Doug Gillard and Bobby Bare Jr. on guitars, Mark Shue on bass, and Kevin March on drums, alongside Pollard. This iteration of the band has been incredibly prolific, releasing 17 albums in the seven years leading up to August 2024. The lead single, "We Outlast Them All," is an anthemic track that, according to Pollard, could be the band's "We Are the Champions." He clarifies, however, that the song isn't necessarily about the band itself but about any group that perseveres. The title is also a self-deprecating nod to the album's name, as Pollard says the goal is "simply to 'seek to occupy the crawlspace of the pantheon.'" This period of high productivity is partly attributed to the band's chemistry and the addition of in-house producer Travis Harrison. Pollard's songwriting process often involves creating songs in bursts, writing enough material for an entire album over a few days, a process that happens two or three times a year. For recent albums, the band has also adopted a live-in-the-studio recording approach. As of early 2026, Guided by Voices has no tour dates scheduled to support the new album and has not performed live since November 2024.
