Creative AI Platform Pixelcut Rebrands to Pixa
Pixelcut, the AI creative platform used by over 15 million people, has rebranded to Pixa and launched a new creative workspace. The move from pixelcut.ai to pixa.com signals a broader ambition beyond simple image editing into a full-suite AI content creation tool.
The platform's expansion is driven by co-founders with strong Silicon Valley pedigrees. Dominique Yahyavi is a designer and engineer from Stanford who previously worked at Apple and Ideo. His co-founder, Prasanth Veerina, also has a background in building creative tools, having created the early App Store success Spark Camera and later serving as a mobile tech lead at Lyft. Veerina also holds a Master's in Computer Science from Stanford. Pixa's new AI creative workspace allows users to orchestrate complex edits and generate content through natural language prompts. This "AI agent" can perform multi-step workflows, such as creating a product photo, adding a model, and then converting it into a video ad, all within a single conversational interface. The system is designed to learn a user's style over time to maintain brand consistency. The platform integrates a suite of AI tools, including background removal for images and video, generative fill for retouching, and image upscaling with models like Topaz. A key feature is the ability to create "Personas" or "AI Actors," allowing for consistent characters to be used across various marketing and social media content, from product showcases to AI-generated user-generated content style ads. Since its start as a simple background remover five years ago, the company has grown to serve over 15 million monthly users and processes more than 100 million images every month. This growth was bootstrapped before the company, then Pixelcut, took on a $250,000 seed investment from the AI Grant accelerator in late 2022 to fuel its expansion into a full-fledged creative suite.
