Shilpa Shetty's Horse Pose Challenge
Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty announced a yoga challenge featuring the advanced Vatayansana (Horse Pose), challenging fans to hold it as long as possible. The pose benefits concentration, stress reduction, and lower body flexibility, becoming a trending "Monday motivation" across social platforms.
Shilpa Shetty's advocacy for yoga began as a personal journey to manage cervical spondylosis, evolving into a two-decade-long public promotion of holistic wellness. Before this recent challenge, she released a successful yoga DVD in 2015 and later launched the "Simple Soulful" fitness app in 2019, which now incorporates AI-powered motion tracking to help users with their form. The actress has a history of initiating viral fitness tests on social media, including a "no-hands mobility test" and a dumbbell squat challenge. These challenges are part of a broader strategy to promote her fitness philosophy of "Swasth Raho, Mast Raho" (Stay Healthy, Stay Happy). Vatayanasana, the pose featured in the challenge, is an advanced balancing asana that combines elements of Eagle Pose and Half-Lotus Pose. It is known for being difficult to balance and can initially cause knee discomfort, which is why it is recommended for intermediate to advanced practitioners. The pose is designed to strengthen the hip joints, legs, and core while improving flexibility in the upper body. Beyond the physical benefits, Vatayanasana is also said to enhance mental concentration and willpower, activating what is known in yoga as the Swadisthana (sacral) chakra, which is associated with creativity and passion. Shetty has built a significant wellness brand around her image, co-owning a wellness chain called IOSIS and investing in health-focused startups. Her YouTube channel, started in 2015, offers free yoga lessons, guided meditations, and nutritious recipes to millions of subscribers.
