Hyundai’s IONIQ 6 N was named the 2026 World Performance Car on April 1 at the New York International Auto Show. (hyundai.com) The award came from the 22nd annual World Car Awards, which listed the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N as the winner in the performance category. The World Car Awards site also named BMW’s iX3 as World Car of the Year and Lucid Gravity as World Luxury Car. (worldcarawards.com) Hyundai said the IONIQ 6 N delivers up to 641 horsepower with N Grin Boost, reaches 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, and uses an 84.0 kilowatt-hour battery. The company said that battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 18 minutes on a 350-kilowatt charger under optimal conditions. (hyundai.com) The result extends a run for Hyundai at the World Car Awards. Hyundai said it has now been recognized for five straight years, including World Performance Car for the IONIQ 5 N in 2024 and triple wins for the IONIQ 5 in 2022 and IONIQ 6 in 2023. (hyundai.com) Hyundai tied that trophy to a broader electric-vehicle push in China nine days later. On April 10 in Beijing, the company launched its all-electric IONIQ lineup brand in China and unveiled two concepts, the VENUS sedan and EARTH sport utility vehicle, ahead of Auto China 2026 on April 24. (hyundai.com) Hyundai said the China plan is aimed at the country’s new energy vehicle market, the local category that includes battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models. Beijing Hyundai President Li Fenggang said future production models will combine “smart driving” and “smart cabin” features aimed at Chinese buyers. (hyundai.com) That puts the New York award and the Beijing concepts in the same frame: Hyundai is using a performance-car win to reinforce the IONIQ name just as it expands that badge in the world’s biggest electric-vehicle market. Hyundai’s April 10 statement said the new China lineup will build on IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 9. (hyundai.com) For Hyundai, the immediate next checkpoint is Auto China 2026 in Beijing on April 24. By then, the company will be trying to turn an award-stage moment in New York into showroom momentum for IONIQ in China. (hyundai.com)
