Iridium Launches Next-Generation Global IoT Platform
Iridium Communications has launched the Iridium 9604, a new Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The company states the smaller, purpose-built device unifies satellite, cellular, and GNSS capabilities into a single unit. It is engineered for scalable, global IoT applications.
- Iridium's revenue from Commercial IoT services grew by 11% to $46.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, with IoT subscribers increasing by 6% to nearly 2 million. For the full year 2025, the company's total revenue rose 5% to $871.7 million, with growth primarily driven by the IoT market. - The company, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, is currently investing over $13 million to expand its headquarters in Fairfax County. This expansion is expected to be completed in March 2026 and will create 117 new jobs, increasing its Virginia-based workforce to nearly 400. - The service operates on Iridium's constellation of 66 active low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which provides the only satellite network with 100% global coverage, including the polar regions.
