Sudan food crisis data

Aid groups say millions of Sudanese are surviving on a single meal a day, and reporting cited that about 61.7% of the population — roughly 28.9 million people — is now acutely food insecure. UN-linked reports put displacement at about 14 million people while attacks on health services and the spread of fighting in Darfur and Kordofan are deepening the emergency. There was a small diplomatic sign that civilian participation in Berlin talks is an 'important shift' and the RSF has verbally accepted a humanitarian truce proposal, but no formal commitments have stopped the fighting. More than half of Sudan’s population now faces acute hunger as the war approaches its third anniversary on April 15. (care.org) Aid groups said on April 13 that 61.7% of Sudan’s people, or about 28.9 million, are acutely food insecure, and more than 10 million are in severe or extreme need. (care.org) The same report said many families are surviving on one meal a day as fighting disrupts farming, transport routes and local markets across the country. (nrc.no) The war began on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, and United Nations agencies said about 14 million people have since been forced to flee. (news.un.org) United Nations refugee officials said about 9 million people are displaced inside Sudan and 4.4 million have crossed into neighboring countries including Chad, South Sudan and Egypt. (unhcr.org) United Nations agencies said violence is still concentrated in Darfur, the Kordofans and Blue Nile, where repeated attacks and new drone strikes have pushed more civilians from their homes. (unhcr.org) The health system is also breaking down. The World Health Organization said more than one third of health facilities nationwide are non-functional, and it has verified 201 attacks on health care since the conflict began. (news.un.org) A separate World Health Organization situation analysis, citing Insecurity Insight data through December 9, 2025, said 671 attacks on Sudan’s health care system had been identified since April 2023. (who.int) There was a small diplomatic move before talks in Berlin on April 15. Former prime minister Abdalla Hamdok said civilian groups would be formally included for the first time, calling that participation an “important shift.” (europesays.com) No agreement has stopped the fighting. United Nations and aid agency updates released in April said hunger, displacement and attacks on health services are still worsening as Sudan enters a fourth year of war. (unognewsroom.org)
