Spotify has expanded audiobook listening included with Premium to 22 markets, widening a push that started in 2023 as a limited bundle for paying subscribers. (newsroom.spotify.com) The company said its audiobook catalog has grown nearly fivefold, from 150,000 titles to more than 400,000, and that included listening is now available in countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In the United States, eligible Premium plans still include 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening time. (newsroom.spotify.com) (support.spotify.com) Spotify also rolled out new discovery tools around books this year, including weekly audiobook charts in the United States and United Kingdom and “Recaps,” short audio summaries that remind listeners what happened before they resume a title. The company described Page Match, launched in February, as a way to jump between a print or electronic book and the audiobook version without losing your place. (newsroom.spotify.com 1) (newsroom.spotify.com 2) (newsroom.spotify.com 3) The move extends Spotify’s effort to turn audiobooks into a regular part of its subscription business, not just a one-off purchase store inside the app. Premium Individual, Premium Family plan managers and Premium Duo plan managers can use included audiobook hours, while Premium Student is excluded. (support.spotify.com) Spotify has been building that business in steps. It entered audiobooks in 2022 with à la carte purchases, added audiobook time to some Premium plans in 2023, and in February 2026 added physical book buying in the United States and United Kingdom through Bookshop.org. (newsroom.spotify.com 1) (newsroom.spotify.com 2) The company is also selling ways to go beyond the included hours. Spotify’s support pages say listeners can buy one-time top-ups or subscribe to Audiobooks+ add-ons, and Family or Duo members can get extra listening time if their plan manager adds it. (support.spotify.com 1) (support.spotify.com 2) Spotify framed the latest update as a bet that readers will move across formats instead of sticking to one. On April 15, it paired the 22-market expansion with a broader message: buy the print edition, match your page, then keep listening inside Spotify. (newsroom.spotify.com)
