Marsh: 'AI winner' claim

Marsh McLennan CEO John Doyle said the firm aims to be an 'AI winner' by pursuing gains in growth, productivity and efficiency. Marsh also announced promotions and hires in Bermuda as part of its latest organisational moves. (insurancejournal.com) (royalgazette.com)

Marsh told investors on April 16 that it wants to be an “AI winner,” with chief executive John Doyle tying that push to growth, productivity and efficiency. (insurancejournal.com) The comment came as Marsh reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $7.6 billion, up 8% from a year earlier, with adjusted earnings per share up 8% to $3.29. Operating income fell 12% to $1.8 billion because of a $425 million Greensill litigation charge. (corporate.marsh.com) Doyle said Marsh is using an enterprise-wide artificial intelligence strategy rather than treating the technology as a stand-alone experiment. He said the company is building AI-enabled applications and services to create new revenue and improve data-driven advice across insurance, health, human capital and investments. (insurancejournal.com) Marsh’s pitch is that artificial intelligence can speed up analysis and routine work without replacing brokers and consultants who handle bespoke risks. Doyle said the tools should help staff serve clients with “complex needs” rather than substitute for trusted advice. (insurancejournal.com) That message lands as Marsh is reshaping its organization around scale. In October 2025, the company said it would unify under the “Marsh” brand and created a Business and Client Services unit to centralize investments in operations, data, artificial intelligence and analytics. (insurancejournal.com) The Bermuda staffing moves announced on April 17 fit that broader effort to strengthen operating teams in a key insurance market. Marsh promoted Dillon Phoenix to senior vice-president in financial and professional liability, Marcela Simons to assistant vice-president in property, Nancy Moniz to assistant vice-president in client services, and Apryl Jackson to assistant broker in financial and professional lines. (royalgazette.com) The company also hired Christine Mello as senior vice-president in casualty and Soniko Thomas as casualty broker. Lindsay Roos, chief executive of Bowring Marsh Bermuda, said the changes were meant to support growth and talent development. (royalgazette.com) Roos has led Bowring Marsh Bermuda since April 2025, when she succeeded Christopher Reeves and began reporting to Adam Russell, Marsh’s head of global wholesale. She had previously been chief operating officer and casualty and healthcare leader for Bowring Marsh Bermuda. (royalgazette.com) Marsh’s first-quarter numbers show where that strategy is being tested. Risk and Insurance Services revenue rose 6% to $5.1 billion, Consulting revenue rose 11% to $2.6 billion, and Marsh Risk revenue reached $3.7 billion, up 8%. (corporate.marsh.com) For now, Doyle is asking investors to judge artificial intelligence the same way they judge the rest of Marsh: by whether it adds revenue, cuts work time and helps advisers handle complicated client problems at scale.
