Packers Extend Center Sean Rhyan
The Green Bay Packers have secured a key piece of their offensive line, signing center Sean Rhyan to a three-year, $33 million contract extension. The deal provides stability for the team's offense heading into the 2026 season.
Originally a third-round draft pick in 2022 out of UCLA, Sean Rhyan was initially signed as a tackle and began his career at guard for the Packers. His initial four-year rookie contract was worth $5.12 million. This extension marks a significant investment in a player who has demonstrated versatility across the offensive line. Rhyan's move to center came during the 2025 season after two-time Pro Bowl selection Elgton Jenkins sustained a season-ending injury in November. Before the injury, Rhyan had started all 17 games of the previous season at right guard and appeared in all 17 games last season with 11 starts. The new three-year, $33 million deal includes an $11 million signing bonus and has a maximum value of $39 million. This contract places Rhyan among the top seven highest-paid centers in the NFL based on average annual salary, a significant commitment for a player with only seven regular-season starts at the position. The Packers are banking on Rhyan's continued development at the center position. While he didn't allow any sacks after taking over for Jenkins, Pro Football Focus ranked his pass-blocking efficiency 31st among centers. However, coaches noted his improvement and growing comfort with the position as the season progressed. This extension provides crucial stability for the Packers' offensive line. By securing their starting center, Green Bay can now focus its draft resources on other areas of need. The move signals the team's confidence in Rhyan as the long-term "quarterback of the offensive line."
