Marine Serre Skips Runway
Designer Marine Serre skipped the traditional runway for her Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, opting instead for an artistic collaboration with the Louvre. The partnership bridges fashion and fine art while maintaining her commitment to sustainability and upcycling.
The collaboration includes five couture pieces inspired by the Louvre, alongside an exclusive three-piece capsule collection set to debut in mid-April 2026. The capsule centers on reimagining the Mona Lisa through Serre's signature upcycling, transforming souvenir t-shirts and medals into new garments. This approach treats the iconic artwork not as a static image, but as living matter to be deconstructed, reassembled, and integrated into wearable forms. Serre utilizes puzzles of the famous portrait to create fragmented, mosaic-like patterns that follow the contours of the body, turning the clothing into a dynamic canvas. This isn't the first time Serre has subverted the traditional runway; her Fall 2022 collection, "Hard Drive," was presented as an exhibition where the public could witness the labor-intensive upcycling process firsthand. The brand's philosophy, "Eco-Futurism," consistently sees about half of its collections crafted from regenerated or upcycled materials. The Louvre has previously partnered with other fashion labels, including Off-White for a 2019 capsule inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and a 2025 collaboration with Agnes B that drew from the landscapes of Claude Lorrain. Uniqlo has also had an ongoing partnership with the museum for T-shirt collections since 2021.
