Ford's 810-HP Mustang Monster
Ford Performance unveiled its most powerful production Mustang yet: an 810-horsepower, supercharged 2026 Mustang with full factory warranty. This marks a new high for factory-backed muscle cars, offering track-grade performance with peace of mind for everyday ownership. The Dark Horse variant is at the heart of this launch.
The immense power boost comes from a 3.0-liter Whipple twin-screw supercharger kit developed in partnership with Ford Performance. This bolt-on package also includes a new 92mm throttle body, a dual-pass intercooler, and upgraded fuel injectors sourced from the GT500 to handle the increased demand. This factory-approved upgrade elevates the Dark Horse's specially-tuned 5.0-liter Coyote V8 from an already impressive 500 horsepower to a staggering 810 horsepower. That represents a more than 60% increase in power, pushing the Mustang into elite supercar territory while retaining a factory warranty. The 810-hp figure places this supercharged Mustang just shy of the track-focused, limited-production 2026 Mustang GTD, which is expected to produce around 815 horsepower from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8. Unlike the GTD, this supercharger package can be fitted to a standard Dark Horse or Mustang GT. This model continues a long legacy of Ford-backed high-performance editions, following iconic predecessors like the Shelby GT350 and GT500, Boss 429, and the SVT Cobra models. The 2000 "Terminator" Cobra R, for instance, was considered the fastest factory Mustang of its time with 385 horsepower. Ford offers this upgrade as part of the "FP800S" package, which can also include aesthetic and handling enhancements. These options feature bronze-finished wheels, carbon fiber aerodynamic parts like a front splitter and spoiler, and a lowered suspension setup to manage the extra performance. This places Ford squarely in the ongoing horsepower wars, offering a direct counter to rivals. While it doesn't reach the drag-strip-specific output of the 1,025-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, it provides a warrantied, street-focused package with comparable power to many European exotics.
