AI Cybersecurity Firm Armadin Lands $190M
Armadin, an AI-native cybersecurity firm focused on building an "ultimate attacker," announced a record-breaking $189.9M in seed and Series A funding. Led by industry pioneer Kevin Mandia, Armadin aims to combat the era of AI-driven hyperattacks with an autonomous, agentic attacker swarm. The company hopes to redefine defense for the AI era.
Kevin Mandia, the founder of Mandiant, which Google acquired for $5.4 billion in 2022, is leading Armadin to combat AI-driven hacking. Mandia's experience includes serving as a cybercrime investigator in the Air Force and exposing Chinese cyber espionage in 2013. He also serves as a general partner at Ballistic Ventures. Armadin's technology uses AI to automate red-teaming and penetration testing, identifying network vulnerabilities. The company aims to enhance network assessments using AI, essentially fighting AI with AI. The AI in cybersecurity market is experiencing rapid growth, with projections estimating it will reach $60.6 billion by 2028. A report indicated 8 billion records were breached in 2023, highlighting the increasing complexity and frequency of cyber threats. The fresh funding will likely value Armadin at over $600 million. The seed funding round was led by Ballistic Ventures, with potential for additional investments from Accel, GV, and Kleiner Perkins. Mandia co-founded Ballistic Ventures in 2021, which has raised $660 million across two funds.
