New Honky-Tonk Opens on River Walk

The Rowdy Spur, a new honky-tonk venue, opened in the former Pat O'Brien’s space on the River Walk, reflecting San Antonio’s embrace of its Texan roots.

The Rowdy Spur features live country music, karaoke, and a menu including Texas-sized burgers, aiming for a lively atmosphere. It also has a cigar and whiskey room called The Hideout. The opening reflects a broader trend of change along the River Walk, with several long-standing venues closing in 2025 and new concepts emerging. Sin Yolanda, a Mexican cantina, opened in December 2025, and Paradise Unknown is expected to open by March 2026. This honky-tonk revival may be influenced by the increasing popularity of country music. Several other country music and Western-themed bars have recently opened in San Antonio, including Frankie's Roundup and High Horse.
