Precise Quantum Signal Measurement

Precise quantum signal measurement in spin ensembles is nearing quantum limit for sensing/dark matter.

The new technique uses an ensemble of electron spins to achieve measurement precision close to the Standard Quantum Limit (SQL). This could improve the sensitivity of experiments searching for dark matter axions and other weakly interacting particles. Researchers are using squeezed states of spins to reduce measurement backaction noise, which is a major obstacle in high-precision measurements. This method could also be applied to enhance magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and detect weak magnetic fields. The study highlights the potential of spin ensembles for quantum sensing and metrology. Future research could focus on further reducing noise and improving the coherence of spin ensembles.
