Veracity Research Sued for Missed Breaks

Employment law attorneys have filed a suit against Veracity Research Co., LLC. The lawsuit alleges the company failed to provide employees with legally required meal and rest breaks. This allegedly resulted in the underpayment of wages, as employee time was not accurately accounted for.

The law firm representing the employees, Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, has a significant track record in employment law, having filed numerous lawsuits under California's Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). This act allows aggrieved employees to file lawsuits to recover civil penalties on behalf of themselves, other employees, and the State of California for labor code violations. The lawsuit centers on California's strict requirements for meal and rest periods. For each workday that a meal or rest break is not provided, the employer is required to pay the employee one additional hour of pay at their regular rate. In California, employees are entitled to a 30-minute meal break for a shift longer than five hours and a 10-minute rest break for every four hours worked. The case, *Tiffany Bell v. Veracity Research Co., L.L.C.*, alleges that the company's failure to provide these mandated breaks resulted in unpaid wages. The Private Attorneys General Act notice for this case indicates it could impact approximately 250 employees. Veracity Research Co. LLC, which also operates as VRC Investigations, is a national firm that provides investigation services for the insurance industry. The company employs hundreds of licensed investigators and support staff across the country. Online reviews from individuals identifying as employees of Veracity Research Co. LLC mention concerns about low pay and inconsistent hours. The lawsuit's allegations of missed breaks and resulting underpayment of wages echo some of these publicly shared employee concerns.
