AI Skills Dominate Global Hiring
A new global LinkedIn analysis finds that AI and machine learning are now the most in-demand skills across five major markets. The report highlights a surge in demand for "AI-literate" roles well beyond engineering, including in project management and content development.
The analysis spans five major markets: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Singapore. Across all of them, the focus has shifted from experimenting with AI to actively hiring professionals who can deploy, manage, and commercialize these technologies. In the U.S., the fastest-growing skills fall under "AI Engineering & Implementation," including data annotation, model fine-tuning, and OpenAI API integration. However, "AI Business Strategy" is also a key growth area, with demand for talent that can define a value proposition for AI and ensure responsible implementation. This trend extends well beyond pure tech roles. In the UK, demand is surging for data storytelling and business process automation. Globally, AI skills are increasingly required in HR, marketing, sales, and consulting, with an emphasis on prompt engineering and workflow automation. The number of job postings requiring AI skills has skyrocketed, jumping 109% from 2024 to 2025. This reflects a rapid integration of AI into the workplace, with one study finding that 78% of organizations now use AI in at least one business function. Recruiters are adapting to this shift, with 46% globally now relying on skills data to find qualified candidates. In some markets, like India, 74% of recruiters report that finding talent with the right skills is more difficult than ever. This demand for "AI fluency" is creating new roles, such as AI Analyst and AI Governance Lead, tasked with aligning AI strategy with business goals and ensuring ethical compliance. Eight out of ten global business leaders now say they are more likely to hire a candidate with AI skills over a more experienced one without them. Alongside technical know-how, there's a rising demand for leadership and people management skills. As AI reshapes workflows, companies are placing a premium on professionals who can manage teams through technological transitions and align stakeholders.
