The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a new cluster of recalls on April 9, sweeping in supplements, lights, fans and steam cleaners over poisoning, burn and fire risks. (cpsc.gov) The biggest action hit BISSELL: about 1.7 million Steam Shot OmniReach and Omni handheld steam cleaners were recalled after attachments could detach and spray hot water or steam. The agency said BISSELL received 206 reports, including 161 burn injuries and one second-degree burn. (cpsc.gov) A separate recall covered about 356,140 iron-containing supplements sold under brands including Arey, Bird&Be, Biote, Dr. Fuhrman, HMR, Sakara and Zenbean. The problem was packaging: the bottles and packets were not child-resistant, even though iron products must use that kind of closure under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. (cpsc.gov) That law matters because iron can poison young children if they swallow it, and the commission described the risk in this recall as serious injury or death. Vitaquest told consumers to move the products out of children’s sight and reach and request a free replacement cap or storage pouch. (cpsc.gov) The lighting recalls show another pattern the agency has been enforcing: products with button-cell or coin batteries must keep those batteries away from children and carry required warnings. In February, CPSC recalled SumDirect LED mini lights because children could easily access the batteries, which the agency said can cause internal chemical burns and death if swallowed. (cpsc.gov) CPSC posted more battery-related light recalls in the same period, including LED lights sold on Amazon by Happiness Light and submersible lights sold by Kitosun and LuxJet. The agency said those products violated the federal standard for consumer products with coin batteries. (cpsc.gov 1) (cpsc.gov 2) (cpsc.gov 3) Other household products on the April 9 list were recalled for overheating and fire. Snooz recalled about 11,900 Breez 2-in-1 smart bedroom fans after six reports of overheating and smoking, including one fire, while Seasonal Specialties recalled about 2,460 Member’s Mark 7-foot Pre-Lit Twinkling Bucks after five reports of smoke and a burning smell. (cpsc.gov 1) (cpsc.gov 2) For consumers, the immediate step is not to keep using recalled products while waiting to decide. CPSC’s notices for these cases call for specific fixes — replacement parts for BISSELL, replacement packaging for the supplements, a replacement fan from Snooz, and refunds or repair kits for the holiday lighting display. (cpsc.gov 1) (cpsc.gov 2) (cpsc.gov 3) (cpsc.gov 4) The April 9 batch also landed less than two years after BISSELL recalled about 3.2 million earlier Steam Shot handheld cleaners over hot water and steam escaping during heating or use. The new notices show how the commission’s recall docket can span everyday products sold at mass retailers, online marketplaces and direct-to-consumer brands in the same week. (cpsc.gov) (cpsc.gov)
