Fremont Creates will turn the Downtown Event Center and Plaza into an artists’ market and hands-on makerspace on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (fremont.gov) The free event is set for 3500 Capitol Ave. in Fremont and is listed by the city as part of Arts, Culture and Creativity Month. (fremont.gov) Fremont Creates and Tri-City Voice say more than 20 local artists will sell work directly to the public, turning the event into a one-day retail market as well as a community arts program. (tricityvoice.com) The makerspace will run during the same 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. window and is aimed at “kids of all ages,” while two new adult art workshops are planned for participants age 15 and older. (fremontcreates.com; tricityvoice.com) Organizers are using the April 26 market to close out Fremont’s local observance of Arts, Culture and Creativity Month, a statewide campaign that cities and arts groups use each spring to concentrate performances, exhibits and public programs into one calendar push. (fremontcreates.com; tricityvoice.com) That final weekend has become a bigger downtown arts cluster. The City of Fremont is also staging a free “Downtown Dance” event at the Downtown Event Center on Saturday, April 25, one day before the market. (tricityvoice.com) This year’s April lineup also includes Fremont’s first citywide “Yarnbombing” project, which wraps trees, benches and railings in knitted or crocheted pieces made by residents and community groups. (tricityvoice.com) For artists, Fremont Creates opened registration for the pop-up market with a $50 deposit that the group says will be returned after the event if participation requirements are met. (fremontcreates.com) For visitors, the pitch is simpler: browse local work, hear live jazz, catch an outdoor performance by Wadaiko Newark taiko drummers, and make something before the monthlong arts push ends on April 26.
