Pokémon Pokopia Launches This Week

The franchise's first life-simulation game debuts this week, drawing praise for its blend of cozy gameplay and classic Pokémon charm. Reviewers highlight its polished execution, likening it to a hybrid of Minecraft and Animal Crossing, and noting that it's "worthy of the long wait."

The game launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026. Pre-loads are already available on the Nintendo eShop for those who have pre-ordered, requiring roughly 10GB of console space. *Pokémon Pokopia* was first conceived by Shigeru Ohmori, a director for *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet*, during that game's development. Ohmori wanted to explore a concept where players could create their own habitats for Pokémon, drawing on his early career work as a map designer for *Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire*. Because developer Game Freak had little experience with the sandbox genre, it partnered with Koei Tecmo's Omega Force for the project. The Pokémon Company recommended the collaboration, as Omega Force had previously developed similar titles like *Dragon Quest Builders 2*. The game's narrative premise involves the player taking on the role of a Ditto that has been transformed into a human. This Ditto awakens in a desolate land with the goal of rebuilding it into a thriving paradise for Pokémon by crafting items, farming, and exploring.
