Google Launches Faster 'Nano Banana 2' AI

Google just launched its new AI model, Nano Banana 2 (also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), which is reportedly 2-5x faster and capable of 4K output. The model is already topping image generation leaderboards and is noted for its improved text rendering and real-world awareness.

The release of Nano Banana 2 on February 26, 2026, represents a significant acceleration in Google's AI development, arriving just months after the original Nano Banana in August 2025 and the professional-grade Nano Banana Pro in November 2025. This new model combines the advanced reasoning and quality of the Pro version with the high speed of the Flash architecture. For corporate and professional users, the model is being deployed directly into business workflows. It is accessible in preview via the Gemini API in Google's Vertex AI for enterprise use and is also being integrated into Google Ads to power campaign suggestions. A key differentiator for commercial applications is the model's ability to ground its creations in reality using real-time information and images from web search. This allows for the accurate depiction of specific landmarks, products, and up-to-date information, a feature aimed at improving the relevance of marketing and educational materials. From a cost perspective, Nano Banana 2 is now the default image generator in the free and paid tiers of the Gemini app, removing a paywall that previously limited access to premium features. For developers using the API, pricing is set per-image based on resolution, starting around $0.045 for a standard image and costing approximately $0.151 for a full 4K image. To address growing concerns around AI ethics and transparency, the model incorporates SynthID technology and C2PA Content Credentials, which serve as a watermark to identify the output as AI-generated. For marketing and creative teams, the model can maintain the consistency of characters and objects across multiple generated images, a critical feature for building coherent visual narratives. The trend of making powerful AI tools faster and more affordable is expected to have a significant economic impact, particularly by boosting productivity in the creative and software development sectors. By lowering the cost and time required for high-quality visual asset creation, such models can
