Snowbasin Resort Update: 124" Total

Snowbasin, one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the U.S., first opened in 1939. It was developed by Weber County after the Great Depression to restore the Wheeler Creek watershed. The resort is located on Mount Ogden, about 33 miles from Salt Lake City. Snowbasin hosted the alpine skiing events during the 2002 Winter Olympics, including downhill, combined, and super-G. It is expected to reprise these roles for the 2034 Winter Olympics. In 2025, Snowbasin was ranked the No. 1 ski resort in the U.S. by SKI Magazine, Outside, and USA Today. The Handle Tow Showdown, presented by Coca-Cola, is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th. Skiers and riders are encouraged to showcase their best tricks alongside professional athletes. The event includes an amateur jam and a main showdown for those 16 years or older. Park City Mountain Resort, opened in 1963, was initially named Treasure Mountain. It aimed to revitalize Park City's economy after the silver mining boom. The resort boasted the world's longest gondola at the time of its opening. Park City hosted snowboarding and giant slalom events during the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2014, Vail Resorts purchased Park City Mountain Resort and merged it with Canyons Resort. This merger created the largest lift-served ski resort in the United States, spanning 7,300 acres. Snowbasin averages 350 inches of snowfall annually. In 2019, the resort recorded 448 inches of snow, marking its third-best total on record. Park City receives an average of 276 inches of snow per year. Currently, Snowbasin is operating 8 lifts, with some terrain closures to protect the snowpack during warmer weather. Park City boasts 40 lifts and 246 trails open.
