Atlantic Salmon Recalled Over Listeria Fears

Slade Gorton & Co. has recalled a lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club. The recall was initiated due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers are being advised to check their purchases and follow FDA guidelines.

The specific product recalled is the 2-lb bag of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon, identified by lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963. This lot was sold at BJ's Wholesale Club stores across seven states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The sales dates for the recalled salmon were from January 31 through February 7, 2026. The potential contamination was discovered after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for *Listeria monocytogenes*. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product. The salmon in question was farmed in Norway and processed at a facility in Poland before being distributed in the U.S. by Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. The company is currently investigating the source of the contamination and taking steps to prevent a recurrence. BJ's is actively notifying members who may have purchased the affected product. *Listeria monocytogenes* can survive and grow even in refrigeration and freezing temperatures. While healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, and diarrhea, the infection can be severe for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. For pregnant women, listeriosis is particularly dangerous, potentially leading to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in newborns. Symptoms can be mild for the mother, but the consequences for the fetus can be devastating.
