Tampa Bay Rays Announce Tropicana Field Upgrades
The Tampa Bay Rays are unveiling major premium upgrades to Tropicana Field ahead of the upcoming season. The improvements are aimed at enhancing the in-venue fan experience as the team continues discussions about a potential new ballpark.
The privately-funded upgrades focus on premium seating areas, including a complete redesign of The Baldwin Group Club with new flooring, a large media wall, and upgraded food and beverage stations. The DEX Imaging Home Plate Club was also overhauled, converting storage space into a speakeasy-style lounge and a specialty candy room. Suites on the main concourse and the Webull Suite Level received significant updates, including new technology, quartz countertops, redesigned layouts, and in-suite restrooms. These renovations are part of a larger, nearly $60 million effort to repair and upgrade the stadium after its roof was destroyed by Hurricane Milton in 2024, an event which required the Rays to play their 2025 home games in Tampa. These fan experience enhancements arrive as the Rays' long-term home remains in flux. A $6.5 billion deal for a new ballpark and redevelopment of the Historic Gas Plant District in St. Petersburg was terminated in mid-2025 following hurricane-related damage and rising costs. The team's lease at Tropicana Field expires after the 2028 season. The franchise is now actively pursuing a new stadium and mixed-use district on the Dale Mabry campus of Hillsborough College in Tampa. In a significant step, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet approved the transfer of 22 acres of state-owned land for the project in February 2026. This potential move to Tampa is envisioned as a public-private partnership, with the team hoping to open a new ballpark for the 2029 season. However, crucial negotiations regarding financing with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa are still pending.
