Applied Optoelectronics raises 2026 guidance above $1.1B

- Applied Optoelectronics said on June 1 it lifted 2026 revenue guidance above $1.1 billion after a string of hyperscale optics bookings. - The clearest demand marker is $324 million in confirmed 800G and 1.6T orders, alongside management’s warning supply should trail demand through 2027. - Early third-quarter 2026 shipments on a more than $200 million 1.6T order are the next concrete milestone.

Applied Optoelectronics is no longer asking investors to underwrite a distant AI-networking story. The company is now pointing to booked business, named capacity targets and a higher 2026 revenue outlook. The update matters because AAOI had already told investors in February it expected more than $1 billion of 2026 revenue; the new figure moves that bar higher after additional hyperscale orders. It also gives a cleaner read on what is driving the company now: high-speed optical links that connect AI clusters inside data centers. ### Why is the guidance change getting attention now? Applied Optoelectronics said it has raised its 2026 revenue guidance to above $1.1 billion after bookings tied to hyperscale customers, building on the company’s earlier forecast for revenue of more than $1 billion this year. Full-year 2025 revenue rose 83% to $456 million, according to the company’s fourth-quarter results and earnings call materials. (finance.yahoo.com) That matters because the company’s earlier outlook was already framed as supply-constrained rather than demand-constrained. On the February earnings call, management said growth was limited by production capacity and supply chain factors, not market demand. The latest order disclosures make that claim easier to quantify. (finance.yahoo.com) ### Where does the $324 million order figure come from? The $324 million total is the sum of two disclosed hyperscale order streams. On March 9, Applied Optoelectronics said it received its first volume order for 1.6T data-center transceivers from a long-term major hyperscale customer, totaling more than $200 million. (finance.yahoo.com) On April 2, the company said a major hyperscale customer placed a new $71 million order for 800G single-mode transceivers, bringing orders from that customer since mid-March to $124 million. Combined, those announcements point to at least $324 million in confirmed 800G and 1.6T business. The company also said it had shipped the first 10,000 units of an 800G single-mode transceiver order to another hyperscale data-center customer. (newsroom.ao-inc.com) ### What are 800G and 1.6T optics actually telling investors? The orders are centered on the bandwidth layer inside AI infrastructure. Applied Optoelectronics said customers are moving from 400G and 800G products toward 1.6T as AI cluster sizes grow and network bandwidth requirements rise. Chief Executive Thompson Lin said in March that the company was seeing “a clear progression toward higher-speed optics as AI clusters scale.” (newsroom.ao-inc.com) Goldman Sachs Research made a similar argument in a May 12 note, calling optical networking “the next mega trend in AI infrastructure” and forecasting the total addressable market for AI networking could expand ninefold to $154 billion. That does not refer specifically to AAOI, but it helps explain why investors are treating optical-module suppliers as direct beneficiaries of AI capital spending. (newsroom.ao-inc.com) ### Can AAOI actually build enough product to meet that demand? Texas is central to the company’s answer. On April 17, Applied Optoelectronics said it would add about 388,000 square feet in Pearland, Texas, on top of a 210,000-square-foot facility under development near its Sugar Land headquarters and other existing Houston-area capacity. (goldmansachs.com) The company said that footprint would let it expand capacity to produce as many as 700,000 units of 800G and 1.6T transceivers per month in the Houston area, while increasing laser-fabrication capacity by about 350% by the end of 2027. In the March 9 release, management also said it expected combined U.S. and overseas production capacity to exceed 500,000 units per month by the end of 2026. (newsroom.ao-inc.com) ### What is the next concrete checkpoint? Early third quarter of 2026 is the next date to watch. Applied Optoelectronics said shipments on the more than $200 million 1.6T order are expected to begin early in the third quarter and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company also said deliveries on the earlier 800G orders were expected to begin in the second quarter, with the initial tranche completed in the third quarter and the newer order by year-end.
