Open Up Resources announced a free virtual event on May 2 focused on math and literacy professional learning for educators (x.com). Separate skills‑training options were also promoted this week — JCP highlighted 'Skills for Careers' training opportunities and EL Education announced blended professional learning starting in summer ( ).

Open Up Resources is opening a free, full-day virtual training event for educators and families on Saturday, May 2. (openupresources.org) The event, called “Open Up Learning Together,” runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time and lets participants join as many or as few 60-minute sessions as they want. Open Up Resources said the day is open to teachers, instructional coaches, school and district leaders, families, and caregivers. (openupresources.org) Open Up Resources said the agenda includes sessions on literacy, mathematics, leadership, multilingual learners, family partnerships, and student-centered teaching, plus an 11:15 a.m. keynote by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Kristopher J. Childs. The listed sessions include “How Great Classrooms Connect Literacy and Numeracy,” “How to Plan for Joy in Math and Literacy Instruction,” and “5 Moves for Making Learning Visible.” (openupresources.org) The organization said educators do not need to use an Open Up Resources curriculum to attend. Its event page describes the sessions as “curriculum-agnostic” and focused on teaching and leadership practices that can be used across classrooms and schools. (openupresources.org) The May 2 event lands in a crowded spring market for teacher training, with curriculum groups and employers pushing online and hybrid options instead of only in-person workshops. Open Up Resources’ events page also lists a separate three-part Prekindergarten through grade 5 mathematics webinar series in April, alongside the May 2 virtual learning day. (openupresources.org) EL Education, a nonprofit curriculum provider that partners with Open Up Resources on materials and services, says it provides professional learning for its kindergarten through grade 8 language arts curriculum and works with distribution partners to deliver materials in flexible formats. On its curriculum access page, EL Education lists Open Up Resources as a provider for parts of its kindergarten through grade 8 curriculum, including Skills Block and Crew Curriculum offerings. (eleducation.org) EL Education says it partners with kindergarten through grade 12 educators in hundreds of diverse schools and districts and offers aligned professional learning alongside curriculum and instructional practices. That gives schools another route into training tied to literacy materials, even when the sessions are delivered through partner organizations. (eleducation.org, eleducation.org) Outside curriculum nonprofits, JCPenney is also advertising skills and career training through its hiring pipeline. Its careers site says the retailer operates more than 650 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico and a supply chain network of nine facilities, with job postings tied to store, logistics, and support roles. (jobs.jcp.com, jobs.jcp.com) For educators weighing options now, the immediate deadline is simple: Open Up Resources’ free virtual day is scheduled for May 2, and registration is already open.
