Zurich to Host Welcome Event for New International Residents

The city of Zurich is inviting new residents from abroad to a welcome event. The event will be hosted at the Stadthaus. The gathering is intended to help new arrivals get acquainted with the city.

- The welcome event is a recurring, free-of-charge gathering that includes a welcome address, a city tour conducted in various language groups, and a concluding reception, or "Apéro," to encourage networking. - As of the end of 2023, the city of Zurich's population reached a record 447,082, with the growth of 4,045 individuals attributed to immigration. Foreign nationals comprised 150,211 of the residents. - By the end of 2024, Zurich's population had increased by another 1,582 people, with the proportion of foreign residents settling at 33.7%. - The most represented nationalities among foreign residents at the end of 2022 were from Germany, followed by Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France. - Beyond the welcome event, the city's Office for Diversity, Integration and Antiracism coordinates a variety of other free courses and events for newcomers on topics like finding a job, searching for an apartment, and living on a budget. - Other major Swiss cities have similar initiatives; Bern hosts a welcome event twice a year that includes a neighborhood tour and a reception with city councilors, while Basel provides new residents with a voucher for an 80-lesson German course.
