Adidas Drops New Hyperboost Edge

Adidas is bringing Boost technology back to the forefront with the new Hyperboost Edge, a running shoe featuring max-cushioning and a pebbled SupercriticalFoam midsole. Early reviews highlight both performance and style, positioning it as a must-watch release for runners and sneaker collectors. The "Peppermint Candy Runner" colorway is already generating buzz online.

The original Boost technology was a collaboration between the Adidas Innovation Team and German chemical company BASF, first appearing in 2013. This midsole, made of thousands of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) particles, was a significant departure from the industry-standard EVA foam, aiming to combine soft cushioning with responsive energy return. While the Energy Boost was the first shoe to feature the technology, the 2015 UltraBoost is what propelled the foam to iconic status. The UltraBoost became a massive crossover success, breaking the barrier between high-performance running gear and mainstream fashion and sneaker culture. The new Hyperboost Edge is positioned as a "super trainer" for daily runs, sitting between the brand's Adizero racing line and the comfort-focused Supernova series. Unlike many modern high-performance shoes, it achieves its cushioning and propulsion without the use of a carbon plate, relying instead on the new Hyperboost Pro foam. The "SupercriticalFoam" process used for the midsole involves injecting an inert gas like nitrogen or CO2 into a polymer under a specific temperature and pressure. This physical foaming process creates a lighter and more uniform foam structure, enhancing energy return and durability compared to traditional chemical foaming methods. The Hyperboost Edge features a very high 45mm stack height at the heel with a 6mm drop to the forefoot. Despite the thick cushioning, the shoe remains lightweight, with a men's size 8.5 weighing just 255 grams. The global launch is set for March 17, 2026, with an initial red and white colorway. Additional colorways are scheduled to be released starting May 1, with the shoe priced at $200. The shoe's design also incorporates a new PRIMEWEAVE upper and a LIGHTTRAXION outsole for a lightweight, breathable, and grippy experience. It enters a competitive market for high-end daily trainers, drawing comparisons to models like the Asics Megablast.
