Salumeria Rosi Opens Second NYC Spot in East Village

Northern Italian restaurant and salumeria, Salumeria Rosi, has opened its second New York City location at 222 Avenue B. The new East Village outpost offers a selection of Italian meats and classic dishes.

The original Salumeria Rosi first opened on the Upper West Side in 2008, establishing itself as a go-to for Northern Italian small plates and high-quality cured meats. It was initially a joint venture between chef Cesare Casella and the Rosi family, owners of the Parmacotto ham company in Parma, Italy. The success of the Amsterdam Avenue location led to its recognition as a "critic's pick" by *The New York Times* and a three-star review from *Time Out New York*. The culinary figure behind the original concept, Cesare Casella, is a Tuscan-born chef known for the sprig of rosemary he often wears in his pocket. Before Salumeria Rosi, Casella earned a Michelin star at his family's trattoria, Vipore, in Italy and opened other acclaimed New York restaurants like Beppe and Maremma. Though he is no longer involved with Salumeria Rosi since selling the restaurants in 2015, his foundational focus on authentic Tuscan flavors and quality salumi defined the brand. The new East Village location is now under the ownership of Andrew Loscalzo, who also designed the space with inspiration from Milanese style and traditional Italian salumerias. While maintaining the core of the Upper West Side model, the Avenue B outpost introduces several new elements. A key addition to the East Village spot is a neighborhood café that opens at 8 a.m. daily. The café serves coffee from Italian roaster Hausbrandt and a selection of breakfast pastries like cornetti and maritozzi before transitioning to lunch and dinner service. The menu also features East Village-specific dishes, such as a bechamel croquette stuffed with prosciutto di parma, alongside beloved classics from the original location.
