Delta restarts JFK–Tel Aviv Sept 6; Atlanta suspended
- Delta Air Lines said on May 20 it will keep Atlanta–Tel Aviv suspended through Dec. 18, 2026, while still planning to resume New York JFK service Sept. 6. - The clearest network detail is Delta’s split timetable: JFK returns on Sept. 6, but Atlanta remains offline until at least Dec. 18. - Delta’s Tel Aviv updates page also says Boston–Tel Aviv service remains delayed until further notice.
Delta Air Lines said on May 20 that it will keep Atlanta–Tel Aviv flights suspended through Dec. 18, 2026, while still planning to restart New York JFK–Tel Aviv service on Sept. 6. The update appeared on the carrier’s Tel Aviv flight advisory page, which also said the planned launch of Boston–Tel Aviv service remains delayed until further notice. Delta said customers with affected Atlanta travel can seek flexible rebooking options or a refund of the unused portion of their trip. ### Why is Delta bringing back JFK before Atlanta? New York-JFK is the only Delta nonstop Tel Aviv route with a firm restart date right now. Delta’s May 20 advisory said service from JFK to Tel Aviv is “still planned” to resume on Sept. 6, even as Atlanta stays suspended deeper into the year. Atlanta had been on an earlier return track. Delta said in an Oct. 31, 2025 route announcement that Atlanta–Tel Aviv flights were due to begin on April 15, 2026, three times a week, after the airline had already restored JFK service in September 2025. (news.delta.com) That plan has since been pushed back several times. ### What exactly changed in Delta’s latest notice? The May 20 update extended Atlanta’s suspension from Nov. 30 to Dec. 18. Delta had said in an April 29 advisory that Atlanta–Tel Aviv would stay paused through Nov. 30, while JFK was still slated to resume on Sept. 6. The newer notice kept the JFK date unchanged and moved only the Atlanta end date. (news.delta.com) Boston’s status did not improve in the same update. Delta said the launch of Boston–Tel Aviv service “continues to be delayed until further notice,” leaving the route without a restart date. ### What reason did Delta give? Delta’s public advisory ties the disruption to security conditions. On its Israel travel alert page, the airline says travel to, from or through the Tel Aviv area may be affected because of “the security situation.” In its earlier JFK restart announcement, Delta said it had resumed Tel Aviv flying after what it called an extensive security risk assessment. (publicnow.com) (news.delta.com) The airline did not, in the May 20 notice surfaced on its news site, give a fuller route-by-route explanation for why JFK is returning before Atlanta. The published advisory limited itself to the revised dates and customer options. ### What does this mean for travelers booked to Tel Aviv? Delta said customers with affected Atlanta itineraries through Dec. 18 can use flexible options, including a refund of the unflown portion of their trip. (delta.com) The carrier’s Israel advisory page directs travelers to review waiver and refund options for flights involving Tel Aviv. Seats on partner airlines had remained bookable during earlier Tel Aviv disruptions. (news.delta.com) In its June 2025 JFK resumption announcement, Delta said seats on Air France and KLM also remained available, offering another path into Israel for some passengers when Delta-operated service was limited. ### Where does this leave Delta’s broader Tel Aviv network? (news.delta.com) Delta had been rebuilding its Israel schedule in stages. The carrier resumed daily JFK–Tel Aviv service on Sept. 1, 2025, and later added a second daily JFK frequency for part of the winter season from Nov. 30, 2025 through Jan. 19, 2026. Atlanta and Boston were supposed to follow in 2026, but only JFK currently has a confirmed operating date. (news.delta.com) Sept. 6 is now the next date to watch on Delta’s Tel Aviv map. After that, Dec. 18 is the date listed for the end of Atlanta’s current suspension, while Boston remains without a published launch date on Delta’s latest advisory page.
