OpenAI workspace agents

- OpenAI rolled out "workspace agents" that teams can create, share, and govern inside ChatGPT for Business. - The new agents are positioned as successors to Custom GPTs and plug into Slack, Salesforce, and other apps. - OpenAI frames this move as turning ChatGPT into a shared execution layer for team workflows rather than single-user assistants (help.openai.com).

OpenAI on April 22 began rolling out workspace agents in ChatGPT, letting Business and Enterprise teams build shared agents that run repeatable work across company tools. (openai.com) OpenAI said the agents can be created from templates or from scratch, tested before publishing, shared inside a workspace, used in ChatGPT or Slack, and scheduled to run automatically. (help.openai.com) The company’s product page says workspace agents connect to Slack, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Microsoft SharePoint, and custom Model Context Protocol servers, with governance controls set by workspace admins. (openai.com) In plain terms, these agents are meant to do office chores that usually require copying information between apps, retyping the same instructions, and waiting for handoffs between coworkers. OpenAI’s help documentation describes them as tools for “repeatable tasks and workflows” inside a shared workspace rather than one person’s private setup. (help.openai.com) OpenAI is also repositioning them as the next step after Custom GPTs. Its launch post calls workspace agents “an evolution of GPTs,” while the ChatGPT Business page now lists both custom workspace GPTs and shareable workspace agents as separate business features. (openai.com 1) (openai.com 2) That distinction matters inside companies because GPTs were often shared knowledge tools, while workspace agents are pitched as workers that can keep going in the cloud after a user closes the tab. OpenAI said the new agents are Codex-powered and can handle long-running workflows such as preparing reports, writing code, and responding to messages. (openai.com) The rollout also lands as OpenAI expands ChatGPT Business for team administration. Help Center updates this month say the plan now supports standard ChatGPT seats and usage-based Codex seats, alongside workspace-level analytics and admin controls. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) OpenAI’s help pages say workspace agents are off by default at launch for ChatGPT Enterprise, can be enabled by admins for eligible workspaces, and are not available for Enterprise customers using Enterprise Key Management, or EKM. (help.openai.com) The company is pairing the launch with training materials that frame agents as shared operating tools for sales, operations, information technology, and customer success teams. That puts ChatGPT closer to a managed workplace system, where permissions, schedules, and app connections matter as much as the model itself. (openai.com 1) (openai.com 2) For now, OpenAI says the rollout will take place over the next few weeks. The test is whether teams treat these agents like another chatbot feature, or like software coworkers that live inside the company stack. (help.openai.com)
