Spring Houseplant Care

Spot new growth on houseplants? Repot, fertilize, and increase light, says Homes & Gardens.

Don't jump to a bigger pot right away; check if the plant is root-bound first. If the roots are tightly circling the pot, gently loosen them before repotting into a slightly larger container. Spring is the time to start feeding your houseplants again as they come out of dormancy. Use a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every few weeks. Increasing light can mean moving plants to a sunnier spot or supplementing with a grow light. Be careful not to scorch the leaves if you move a plant from a low-light to a high-light location too quickly.
