Microsoft Integrates Anthropic's Claude in Copilot Cowork
Microsoft launched Copilot Cowork, a cloud-based enterprise agent powered by Anthropic’s Claude, bundled with Agent 365 and the E7 suite.
Copilot Cowork leverages Anthropic's Claude to automate complex tasks across multiple applications, using Microsoft's WorkIQ to understand relevant context from emails, meetings, files, and data. It breaks down requests into steps, reasons across tools, and executes tasks, managing processes that can run for minutes or hours. For example, it can prepare a customer meeting by gathering emails, meetings, and notes, then create a presentation and Excel overview of product growth. Agent 365, now generally available, serves as a control plane for governing AI agents, providing centralized management, security, and observability. It integrates with Microsoft Defender, Entra, and Purview to offer a unified system for registering agents, enforcing access controls, and monitoring behavior. Each AI agent gets a Microsoft Entra Agent ID for identity, lifecycle, and access management, ensuring enterprise-grade control. Microsoft 365 E7, dubbed the "Frontier Suite," bundles Microsoft 365 E5, Copilot, Agent 365, and the Entra Suite into a single SKU. Available May 1st for $99 per user per month, E7 is designed for organizations seeking to move beyond passive AI adoption. It aims to create an environment where AI agents operate autonomously alongside humans with centralized governance, security, and observability. Copilot Cowork is currently in a limited research preview, with broader access scheduled through the Frontier program in late March. It differs from basic question-answering AI by enabling users to describe a desired outcome, which Copilot then executes as a multi-step plan across Microsoft 365 apps. This includes pulling context, building structured plans, creating documents and presentations, and scheduling prep time.
