Pleasanton is hosting a free Family Cycling Workshop on Saturday, April 25, with Bike East Bay instructors leading bike-safety drills and a neighborhood ride for parents and kids. (bikeeastbay.org) The workshop runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pleasanton Amador Recreation Center, 4443 Black Ave., and registration is listed through Bike East Bay and Eventbrite. (bikeeastbay.org) (eventbrite.com) Bike East Bay says the session includes helmet fitting, a bike safety check, signaling and communication with other road users, straight-line riding, obstacle avoidance, and safe intersection practice. (bikeeastbay.org) The class is aimed at families riding together, not first-time riders. Bike East Bay says minors must be accompanied by an adult, and both adult and child need their own working bikes and helmets. (bikeeastbay.org) Pleasanton has been promoting bike education through a city partnership with Bike East Bay and the neighboring cities of Dublin and Livermore. The city says the program is designed to help cyclists learn road safety, local laws, and bike commuting skills. (cityofpleasantonca.gov) The April 25 family session is one of three free Pleasanton-area biking workshops the city highlighted this month. The same Pleasanton location also hosted Urban Cycling 101 on April 18 and is scheduled to host Urban Cycling Day 2 on May 2. (cityofpleasantonca.gov) (bikeeastbay.org) Pleasanton is also tying spring bike classes to May’s Bike to Wherever activities, which the city says are meant to get more residents to try riding to work, school, parks, and errands. (cityofpleasantonca.gov) For families who already have kids riding on two wheels, Saturday’s workshop is the city’s hands-on session before those larger May bike events begin.
