Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 for supported Pixel devices on April 22, starting the next quarterly update track before Android 17 is fully stable. (developer.android.com) Quarterly Platform Releases are the smaller Android updates Google ships between major versions. Google said QPR1 Beta 1 is available for Pixel devices and the Android Emulator for development, testing, and feedback. (developer.android.com 1) (developer.android.com 2) Google’s release notes list build CP31.260403.005.A1, dated April 22, 2026, with the April 5, 2026 security patch level and Google Play services 26.11.36. (developer.android.com) The company said these QPR builds land on a quarterly cadence and later reach the Android Open Source Project and Pixel devices as Feature Drops. Google also said QPR betas, unlike major-version previews, are suitable for general use. (developer.android.com) This beta is mostly about repairs, not new app-facing features. Google said it fixed a low-ink print-service crash, an Application Not Responding error in the Terminal app, VoIP audio distortion, and a direct-audio output failure on some devices. (developer.android.com) The timing is unusual because Android 17 itself is still in beta. Google’s Android 17 Beta 4 arrived on April 16, 2026, and the company called it the last scheduled beta before release. (developer.android.com) (9to5google.com) Xiaomi moved on the same front Tuesday, opening its Android 17 Developer Preview program for the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, and Xiaomi 15T Pro. Xiaomi said testers must flash preview ROMs manually and warned that the software is not recommended for daily use because it can be unstable and will erase device data during installation. (mi.com) Xiaomi’s support page lists required base versions including OS3.0.301.0.WPCMIXM for Xiaomi 17, OS3.0.9.0.WPAMIXM for Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, and OS3.0.11.0.WOSMIXM for Xiaomi 15T Pro. (mi.com) Taken together, Google and Xiaomi are pushing Android 17 testing into the open before the main release is finished. That puts the next phase of Android on two tracks at once: final app checks for Android 17, and early bug-fixing for the first quarterly update after it.
