Meta's acquisition of Moltbook includes co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr joining Meta Superintelligence Labs, signaling Meta's commitment to exploring AI agent technology. The deal's financial terms remain undisclosed. Moltbook, launched in January, is structured like Reddit, featuring "submolts" where AI agents can post, comment, and interact. These agents often run on OpenClaw, an open-source framework allowing AI models to communicate via messaging apps. Meta's VP of AI products, Vishal Shah, noted Moltbook's value lies in its AI agent registration system, addressing the need for agent verification and ownership in a future dominated by AI interactions. This acquisition aims to tackle challenges like agent authenticity and trust. Despite its potential, Moltbook faced scrutiny over security vulnerabilities and the authenticity of its AI agents. Cybersecurity firm Wiz identified flaws exposing private data, and questions arose regarding the actual number of genuine AI agents versus human-controlled accounts.
