Bissell recalls 1.7m steamers

Bissell has recalled about 1.7 million Steam Shot OmniReach and Steam Shot Omni steam cleaners with attachments after dozens of reported serious burn injuries; the units were sold through major retailers between October 2024 and March 2026. The recall covers widely distributed models, a detail that matters for move-in guidance and client home-care recommendations. (fox13news.com)

A handheld cleaner that blasts near-boiling water through a small nozzle is being pulled from homes after its attachments were reported to pop off and spray users with hot water or steam. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said BISSELL is recalling about 1.7 million Steam Shot OmniReach and Steam Shot Omni units in the United States. (cpsc.gov) The trigger was not one bad review or one freak accident. The safety agency said BISSELL received 206 reports of hot water or steam escaping, including 161 burn injuries. (cpsc.gov) The problem sits where the tool meets the machine. According to the recall notice, attachments can unexpectedly detach during use, which turns a cleaning wand into something closer to a pressure spray aimed at hands, arms, or feet. (cpsc.gov) These were not obscure products sold through one website for one holiday season. The recalled cleaners were sold at Target, Walmart, and other stores, and online at Amazon, BISSELL, HSN, and other sites from October 2024 through March 2026. (cpsc.gov) Price is part of why so many ended up in kitchens, bathrooms, and move-in supply closets. The units sold for about $40 to $70, which put them in the range of an impulse buy for grout, stovetops, shower doors, and other small cleaning jobs. (cpsc.gov) If you are checking one at home, the key detail is the model number on the rating label on the bottom of the unit. The United States recall covers model numbers 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W, and 4171F. (cpsc.gov) The colors do not narrow it down much. The recalled units were sold in green, gray, white, blue, and dark blue, so the label matters more than the shell. (cpsc.gov) BISSELL is not asking owners to keep using the machine carefully or wait for another notice. The company and the safety agency say consumers should stop using the recalled attachments immediately and contact BISSELL for free replacement attachments. (cpsc.gov)
