Superhuman Acquires Rows for AI Workspace
Email client Superhuman is acquiring Rows, a spreadsheet automation company, to build an "all-in-one AI workspace." The move signals a push toward platforms that provide modular, agentic workflows, allowing end-users to orchestrate their own automations without deep technical expertise.
- This move is part of a larger platform strategy by Superhuman's parent company, Grammarly, which acquired Superhuman in July 2025 to build a comprehensive, AI-powered productivity suite. The goal is to create an AI-native system that connects Grammarly, the Coda workspace, and Superhuman Mail. - Rows, founded in 2016 and based in Berlin, had developed a spreadsheet platform with an "AI Analyst" and native integrations to business tools like Notion and Google Analytics. Prior to the acquisition, the company had raised a total of $32.7 million, including a €8 million round in May 2024. - The acquisition is a technology and talent integration; the Rows product will be gradually sunsetted over three months, with the team from Porto, Portugal joining Superhuman to strengthen the data and analysis capabilities of Coda. - Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra previously co-founded Rapportive, a Gmail plugin that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2012, giving him a track record of building and exiting companies in the email productivity space. - The strategy is centered on "agentic AI," where autonomous AI agents manage complex, multi-step workflows with minimal human intervention. This approach aims to transform static software into dynamic systems that can automate tasks like scheduling, research, and data analysis across different applications. - Before being acquired by Grammarly, Superhuman had raised $118 million in funding and was valued at $825 million in its August 2021 Series C round, with investors including Andreessen Horowitz and IVP.
