Microsoft's Leadership Shakeup: Jha Retires
Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's EVP of Experiences + Devices, is retiring after 35+ years. Microsoft is promoting from within, elevating Jeff Teper and others. This underscores the value of institutional knowledge and cross-domain leadership, a key consideration for director-level advancement.
Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's EVP of Experiences + Devices, will retire on July 1st after 35+ years with the company, but will remain in an advisory role. Jha oversaw key products including Windows, Microsoft 365, and Copilot. His departure is part of a leadership transition that has been in the works for months between Jha and CEO Satya Nadella. Four executives from Jha's organization will now report directly to Nadella as EVPs: Perry Clarke (Microsoft 365 Core), Charles Lamanna (Business & Industry Copilot), Pavan Davuluri (Windows + Devices), and Ryan Roslansky (LinkedIn). Jeff Teper is being promoted to EVP, and Sumit Chauhan and Kirk Koenigsbauer to President. These changes aim to streamline leadership and maintain momentum on key initiatives. Microsoft is emphasizing that priorities around the Secure Future Initiative (SFI), the Quality Engineering Initiative (QEI), and Copilot will remain unchanged during the transition. Jha's team will work to finalize the organizational structure before the start of Microsoft's fiscal year 2027 on July 1. Nadella praised Jha's impact, highlighting his role in shaping Microsoft's products and strategy. Teper's promotion is particularly noteworthy, as he has been a driving force behind Microsoft Teams and SharePoint. His promotion signals Microsoft's focus on collaboration tools with AI capabilities. Jha joined Microsoft in 1990 and played a significant role in the evolution of its productivity and enterprise offerings, including the transition of Office to cloud-based services.
