Targeted support sells advice

Nearly half of independent advisers say targeted, personalized support—especially around pensions and investments—would get more people to seek professional advice, signaling a clear referral and service opportunity (ftadviser.com).

Opinium’s research found 57% of independent financial advisers agreed the FCA’s Targeted Support framework would help clients better plan their financial futures. (ifamagazine.com) The same Opinium polling reported that 52% of IFAs said new clients in 2026 sought advice to plan for new financial goals such as retirement, paying off a mortgage or buying a home. (ifamagazine.com) Opinium’s data also showed 38% of IFAs are seeing new clients driven by life events (weddings, having children, moving house), 29% cited changes in income or employment, and 12% pointed to planning for upcoming major expenses. (ifamagazine.com) Only 19% of IFAs told Opinium they believed Targeted Support would make people less likely to seek independent financial advice. (financialreporter.co.uk) The FCA’s draft rules for the Targeted Support regime were published in June 2025 as part of wider moves to let firms provide tailored, group-based pension and investment recommendations. (gov.uk) Multiple industry outlets noted the framework was scheduled to be introduced in April 2026, ahead of which Opinium fieldwork and commentary from its research manager Matthew Howlett underpinned the polling release.
