Wellsley Farms salmon recalled over Listeria concerns
A lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club has been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The FDA and the company are urging consumers to check their purchases for the affected product as foodborne pathogens remain a persistent supply chain concern.
The recall, initiated by seafood distributor Slade Gorton & Co., Inc., specifically affects 2-pound bags of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon. Consumers should check for lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963 on the back of the packaging. The potential contamination was discovered after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration collected a random sample of the product for testing. The affected salmon was sold at BJ's Wholesale Club stores across seven states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The product in question was available for purchase between January 31 and February 7, 2026. BJ's is actively contacting members who may have purchased the recalled salmon, and customers can also call 1-888-628-0730 for refund information. *Listeria monocytogenes* is a bacterium that can survive and grow even in refrigerated conditions. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea, but for some, the illness can become invasive, spreading beyond the gut. The infection is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, as it can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infection in a newborn. It also poses a serious risk to adults over 65 and individuals with weakened immune systems, who may experience severe symptoms like a stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this salmon. Slade Gorton & Co. is investigating the source of the contamination to prevent future occurrences.
