Phoenix Restaurant Scene Heats Up

Phoenix and Scottsdale are attracting attention as top chefs prepare to launch several new restaurants, promising a wave of fresh dining experiences for food lovers in Arizona. The anticipated openings reflect the cities' growing reputations as culinary destinations beyond their traditional Southwestern fare.

The Valley's culinary scene is attracting major talent, with world-renowned chef José Andrés making his Arizona debut with Bar Mar, a Mediterranean seafood concept, at the VAI Resort in Glendale. In Midtown Phoenix, local restaurateur Christopher Collins is launching Cowboy Seafood, a concept combining competition-grade barbecue with an elevated seafood and raw bar. The influx of new restaurants includes several highly anticipated out-of-state arrivals. The internationally famous Taiwanese dumpling house, Din Tai Fung, is set to open at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Additionally, the upscale American grill Harry & Izzy's, a sister restaurant to Indianapolis's iconic St. Elmo Steak House, will open its first Arizona location in the redeveloped Paradise Valley Mall. A host of other notable concepts are also entering the market. In Arcadia, the Tuscan-inspired lifestyle brand Sogno Toscano has opened its first Arizona cafe. The see-and-be-seen Hollywood supper club, Drake's Hollywood, is bringing its luxe experience to Old Town Scottsdale. Meanwhile, thirteen-time world pizza champion Tony Gemignani is expanding his Slice House to Gilbert and Tempe. The local restaurant scene is also gaining national recognition, with 12 Arizona chefs and restaurants named as semifinalists for the 2026 James Beard Awards. Phoenix's Highball cocktail bar and Scottsdale's Indibar were nominated for Outstanding Bar and Best New Restaurant, respectively. Chef Charleen Badman of FnB in Scottsdale is a semifinalist for the national Outstanding Chef award. The Arizona Restaurant Association's 2026 Foodist Awards further highlighted the state's culinary talent. Gio Osso of Virtu Honest Craft and Pizzería Virtu received the Food Pioneer Award for his lifetime of culinary excellence in Arizona. The awards, determined by public vote and a panel of experts, recognized establishments and individuals shaping the state's vibrant food scene. This growth is also being driven by established local restaurant groups. Pretty Decent Concepts, known for Wren & Wolf, is opening a cathedral-themed Italian restaurant called Roman in Tempe. The Clive Collective, the group behind Cala and The Americano, is launching Kuza, a Japanese robata concept in north Scottsdale. The new openings bring a variety of cuisines and dining experiences. In Phoenix's Arcadia neighborhood, celebrated mixologist Jason Asher is collaborating on Hornbill, a Singapore-inspired cocktail lounge and restaurant. Scottsdale will see the arrival of BOA Steakhouse, a modern steakhouse popular in Hollywood, which will open on the waterfront in early 2026.
