Carol Shields Prize Longlist Announced
The 2026 Carol Shields Prize for Fiction longlist is here, featuring 15 women authors like Janet Rich Edwards and Megha Majumdar [https://x.com/i/status/2031335544064475295].
The Carol Shields Prize, worth $150,000 (USD), recognizes the best fiction by women and non-binary authors in the US and Canada. The winner will also receive a five-night stay at Fogo Island Inn. The other four finalists will each receive $12,500 (USD). The longlist was chosen by a jury of writers: Carmen Maria Machado (chair), Ivan Coyote, Cherie Dimaline, Chitra Divakaruni, and Deesha Philyaw. Machado said it was an honor to encounter this body of work by women and non-binary authors. Four Canadian authors are on the longlist: Jaime Burnet, Nina Dunic, Lee Lai, and Amanda Leduc. The shortlist will be announced on April 21, and the winner revealed at a Toronto event on June 2.
